Design Babylon was launched by Brett Valenstein in October 2008 with a focus on art, interior design, entertaining, fashion, and all things luxurious and pleasurable.

Brett received a Graduate-Level Professional Designation with Distinction  in Interior Architecture from UCLA in 2007, during which time she worked as a design associate for Jeffrey Alan Marks, Inc., a leading Los Angeles design firm.

She received a BA in Economics from the Claremont Colleges in 1996. What followed was a career in sports marketing, Wall Street and a stint at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games before she finally figured out what she really wanted was a career in architecture and design.

A career in interior design was in her blood, as her paternal grandmother was an interior decorator before becoming a celebrated fine artist, but it was the experience she had designing a hospitality suite on a shoestring budget in Park City, Utah for the 2002 Winter Olympics that led her to decide to leave her career in the sports and event marketing field to pursue a career in interior design.  An internship with well-known Los Angeles interior designer Jeffrey Alan Marks lead to a full-time position and gave her the opportunity to develop her own style, which is highly influenced by such design luminaries as David Hicks, Dorothy Draper, William Haines, Chesssy Raynor, and Albert Hadley. not to mention Marks himself.

Brett grew up in New York City where her playground was the Metropolitan Museum of Art and she became fascinated at a very young age with design elements of different periods and cultures.  She would lose herself for hours wandering the galleries armed with her sketchbook and imagination.

When not at The Met, she was pursuing her passion for skiing on the slopes of Jackson Hole, Wyoming or traveling in Europe, Asia and Africa. These interests continue to the present, when work allows!

Currently based in Denver, Colorado, Brett is spreading her own brand of fresh, young and hip style.
