DIY tuesday | the metropolitan

by DesignBabylon on 29 January 2010

Ok.  I know it’s not Tuesday, but I’m trying to create a blogging schedule so that you, my faithful readers, know what to expect every day.

Clearly this is a work in progress.

It’s no secret that I love a good cocktail and am always on the lookout for new and different concoctions.  In my search I came across a drink called the “Metropolitan,” which immediately brought to mind Whit Stillman’s deliciously satirical movie of the same name.  So, of course i had to try it!

The Metropolitan

3 oz. Black Currant Vodka
1/2 oz.
Lillet
1/2 tsp.
Lime Juice (Fresh)

Shake with cracked ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist

The Metropolitan, Corridor 44 Style

I was at Corridor 44 the other night, one of my favorite bars in denver — leave it to me to have a champagne bar as my “Cheers” – it was a pretty slow night so I got to chatting with Justin, the bartender.  I asked if he would mix me a Metropolitan — the bar didn’t have any black currant vodka, but they did have fresh black currants.  Justin muddled the fruit and mixed up the drink for me.  SOOOOOOO delish!  But now I’m afraid I’m spoiled and the black currant vodka won’t cut it compared to the muddled fruit version.  *le sigh*

But don’t think for a second that my muddled fruit obsession will keep me from making this ultra-simple recipe at home.  No sir.  I’m gonna mix one up right now, in fact.  It’s 5 0′clock somewhere, right?

This weekend, mix yourself a Metropolitan and leave me a comment below to tell me what you think!
