Ok, ok… so “curule” is really a smarty-pants-make-everyone-feel-dumb way of saying “x-based” stool, but don’t discount the “humble” stool’s contribution to interior design. The curule is also known as a Savanarola chair or a Dante chair. Whatever you call it, it is a classic piece that can be always incorporated into any decorating style.

It’s no secret that I love a good cocktail and am always on the lookout for new and different concoctions. In my search I came across a drink called the “Metropolitan,” which immediately brought to mind Whit Stillman’s deliciously satirical movie of the same name. So, of course i had to try it!

Lately, or I should say in the past year or so, I’ve been really drawn to anything aubergine — jewelry, clothes, decor items, paint, anything you can think of really. This attraction may be why I chose aubergine as the main color in my logo for Design Babylon! There is something extremely strong and mysterious yet welcoming about rooms decorated in deep purple.

Have you ever been around a designer, or a designer-type when they start throwing around words like “enfilade” “ensuite,” “bobéche” or the like? Did you feel like a cartoon character with a huge question mark floating over your head? Have no fear, db is going to teach you about the secret language of designers through a new series called “Sound Like a Designer.” The second term in the series? Singerie.

This is bananas. How did I not know about the Coco Mademoiselle website with behind the scenes tour of Chanel’s legendary apartment at 31 rue Cambon? I really should be quite ashamed of myself.
